We’ve got a full month into Premiership football for season 2007/2008 and it’s shaping up to be a tough league, as predicted, although this year it seems like teams out of the big 4 might make some surprises. With that, here’s my musings (… and rants):
1. Chelsea is finally out of luck, and I do believe the scoreline of 2-0 at Villa Park is fair (unlike what Senor Jose suggested). A week prior, they don’t deserve the 1-0 victory against the Pompey, and a week earlier they should’ve lost at Anfield –had it not for the referee to make a decision that welcomed his one week ban.
2. United is still lacking sharpness –even with Saha back. I just can’t understand SAF decision not to buy any striker. It’ll be interesting to see though his stance come the New Year transfer window. Are we saying Larsson-like catalyst again?
3. Hargreaves looks impressive. I can understand why SAF stretched that far to get this lad.
4. Nani looks to be another good signing. His long range shot must be utilized more than his crosses –which is one area that he needs to work on.
5. Abramovich was looking unsettled again last night at Villa Park, look for Senor Jose to be elsewhere next year if Chelsea failed to capture either the league title or the CL.
6. Fernando Torres. What can I say, so far he worth every single pound that Rafa has paid for.
7. I won’t be surprised if Sunderland stayed up at the end of the season. After spending so much in the summer (close to 35 million pounds) –including a 10 million pounds for a goalie, Roy Keane needs to deliver. And I think he will.
8. United connections is everywhere, Hughes, Bruce, Keane, Coppell, McLaren … hats-off to Fergie!
9. Gareth Bale is very sharp in his first two games for the Spurs, I think United has just made another Robben-type miss again. Lucky though ,this time this lad didn’t end up at Chelsea or Liverpool.
10. Bolton is having a miserable time, and I won’t be surprised if they’re fighting relegation throughout the season –even though that means Anelka might end up somewhere top 3 scorers this season, if not the top scorer since King Henry is gone now.
11. Derby County. What else can I say? 1 point with -12 goals difference. They seems to have thrown in the towel before the battle heats-up.
A.E.T : Manchester City is normally not a favorite topic, but the arrival of Thaksin “Sinatra” and Eriksson looks to have sparked them to a new beginning, well for the first 3 games. It was story as usual that followed. They might be at number 10 at the end of the season, but that’s as far as they can go.
