Birmingham City 0 - MAN UTD 1

Ronaldo scored the goalManchester United continued their winning streak extended to 5 in a row without conceding a goal. It wasn’t one of United’s best performance, but it was all credit to Steve Bruce’s troops for putting out a spirited display. The Blues could’ve scored early in the first half with one goal-line clearance by Rio Ferdinand and a number of half chances before Cristiano Ronaldo gave United the lead early after the break that were held on until the end of the game after he brilliantly rounded the goalie capitalizing a long ball from Ferdinand.

Here’s 11 musings on the game:

1. Ferdinand has 2 clearance off the goal line for United this season.

2. United’s defense again stood firm on the day when the opponent is lurking around trying to poke in a goal.

3. Sir Alex expectedly made 11 changes to the side that lost to Coventry City in the midweek Carling Cup.

4. Kuszczak produced a brilliant display after coming in for the injured van der Sar in the second half.

5. Tevez looked comfortable in his role playing just behind the striker.

6. Rooney, though on the other hand looked not at his best yet a few games after returning from the metatarsal injury. Sir Alex probably should’ve given him a game during the midweek against Coventry City.

7. van der Sar injured his toe after trying to prevent a corner from Ferdinand’s back header. It’ll be Kuszczak at the goal against Roma in the midweek Champions’ League tie.

8. Carrick had a poor game, his passing was limited and there was no vision during the game.

9. For all United’s attacking signing during the summer, it was United’s defense that has kept us going so far.

10. Giggs is not at his best, but I do think he still deserve to be in the starting line-up as his one touch and vision would benefit United one way or another, similar to his contribution during Chelsea’s game.

11. With Saha upfront, supported by Tevez just behind him, Rooney looked more comfortable attacking from the left flank.
