Manchester United continued their marching order of 1-0 win, their 6th game without conceding a goal (excluding the game against Coventry City where obviously it was a team “B” playing). Kuszczak kept his composure in place of the injured van der sar although a couple of quickly recovered spill on each half added a little gasp to the fans. As expectedly, the scoreline is tight and Roma is very unlucky not to come away with at least a point.
Musings from the game:
1. Ferdinand was brilliant on the night, another block preventing a goal is his 3rd so far this season. He fully earned his captain armband.
2. SAF decided Saha is the man for European night, but it was Tevez that looked more and more comfortable in the system with Rooney as the striker.
3. Rooney scored his first goal (it’s a reminiscent of his goal against AC Milan last season) for United this season. He’s hitting top gear.
4. O’Shea played comfortably at right back in place for the injured Brown. Mancini could not do much throughout the night.
5. Nani has a lively game. His cross has got so much better now.
6. Carrick is still lacking some touches compared to his form last year.
7. Scholes is still the man in midfield, breaking up playing, linking passes to passes. I wonder who SAF had in mind to be his understudy.
8. Ronaldo left with a deep cut on the eyebrow after being shoved by Vucinic. Other than that event, it was a game full of sportsmanships. Credit to Roma.
9. Kuszczak is worthy of a successor to van der sar, but not too soon yet. He needs to build his confidence.
10. Roma could’ve leveled through Perrotta or Esposito, but I guess sometimes you need luck in football.
11. United has won 2 out of 2 matches for Champions’ League this season. A couple more wins will bring United to the group stage. Go United!!!
